Samuel Vardell Muse affectionately known as Vardell, Sam and UNC, was born in Birmingham, AL to the late Samuel Lee and Ethel Muse Boykins. He was their second child. He accepted Christ at an early age worshipping at New Nazareth Baptist in Chicago, IL where he found solace and community. He spent his younger years in Chicago, IL before moving back to Alabama. Vardell attended Millison Elementary School and went on to graduate from Tilden High School.
Samuel served in the Illinois National Guard in 1980 to 1983, demonstrating his commitment to serving his country. After military service, he pursued a career at various companies including: Southwest Airlines, Milton Johns Manufacturing Company, and Welch Asbestos Removing Company.
Samuel was known for his passion for fixing things, playing cards, and spending time with family and friends. He had a special bond with two adoptive sons, Eddie and Tyrine Wilson, whom he lovingly guided and supported. His hobbies included sports, dancing and telling old folks tales.
Vardell leaves behind to cherish in his memories: Brittney Payne Muse (Wife); Janette Muse (Sister); adopted sons, Eddie Wilson and Tyrine Wilson; adopted daughters, Alexus
Smith and Kandria Payne; four great nieces, three great nephews; three aunts; a host of cousins and love ones and friends.
